To Whom It May Concern,
My name is MacKenzie MacLeod; I am currently doing an after degree in Education with my major in Social Studies. I began this journey in Calgary in fall 2007 at Mount Royal College in the Education transfer program. In fall 2010 I transferred to the University of Lethbridge and chose to complete my B.A. before pursuing my Bachelors of Education. Last May I received my Bachelor of Arts degree with distinction in social sciences.
In the past two years I have been fortunate to experience work opportunities where I learned much about child development. I currently work part-time with two companies: Supported Lifestyles and Woods Homes. At supported lifestyles I am a respite specialist for special needs children aged 4 to 18. I care for children on a casual basis when their families are in need of a break. I have worked with many different disabilities including autism, aspergers, cerebral palsy, global developmental disorder, and other common diagnoses such as FASD, ADD, ADHD, and ODD. At Woods Homes in Lethbridge I work as a youth counselor at the emergency youth shelter.
These experiences have not only taught me a lot about children and youth but also about the importance of patience, compassion, empathy, and adaptability when dealing with others.
Apart from these experiences I have a little experience in the classroom. My practicums which I completed through Mount Royal were in a grade one class as well as a grade eight class. Unfortunately, it has been a couple years since I was last in a classroom therefore I am very eager to get started in your classroom.
During this professional semester I hope to develop meaningful relationships with both students and teachers and gain more confidence in a classroom setting. I also look forward to learning more about classroom management and exploring the curriculum.
I thank you for giving me the opportunity to work with and learn from you. I am eager to get into the classroom and begin this journey. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
Sincerely,
MacKenzie MacLeod
